WFV, Goitstock Christmas Stroll, 9.12.25

The day was mild with a fresh breeze. The overnight rain and dark morning clouds had not deterred eight members from meeting for our Christmas Stroll.  We headed off along the planned route and enjoyed perhaps ten minutes before the heavens opened. It was soon clear that this was going to be a day for ducks rather than for bees.  Stoically,  the hardier half of the group continued walking while the others turned back. One group had the reward of seeing orange fungi on a stick; my group had the reward of a hot drink!

The cafe at the garden centre was the ideal spot to await those who had opted to meet and eat but not to walk. In total fourteen members took lunch. We were delighted to have Kevin back with us.

The rain undoubtedly kept the birds hidden and stopped us from admiring winter foliage but was also the cause of the most memorable sight of the day. None of us had seen Harden Beck so full and flowing at such speed nor witnessed the volume of water cascading down from the woodland into the beck.  The rain also mitigated the traffic hazard regularly encountered on this lane.

Today’s meet and eat was in contrast to previous more formal Christmas meals. Your views will help for future planning.
