Apple Day

The 25th anniversary of Apple Day in 2025!  What a day!

To celebrate 25 years since the first BEES Apple Day, this community focussed event in Bowling Community Orchard was bigger than ever. There was plenty for all ages to enjoy in the glorious sunshine.

Around 500 people of all ages and community joined us for this year’s Apple Day celebration in Bowling Community Orchard.  It was made extra special with the presence of so many friends, volunteers, stall holders, bakers, makers and community heros.

Thank yous must go to our many hardworking volunteers for year round work and support on the day.

The day would not have been the same without our friends at The Coppice Collective doing green wood crafting, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust sharing knowledge and selling seeds, Calm in the Wild doing wonderful creative crafts, Friends of Bowling Park doing kids crafts, french jazz music from Mimi le Bonq, Wrapture’s famous falafals, The Big Draw, Fruitworks selling trees, our honey seller and our food, cake, orchard goods and hot drinks.

Children had a go at making organic apple juice, using a traditional apple press.

We could not run this annual event without a team of dedicated volunteers, cake bakers, crafters, chutney makers and partner organisations to make it a great day out for all.

APPLE JUICING AND FRIENDS OF BOWLING COMMUNITY ORCHARD

We are always keen to meet new volunteers to help maintain our wonderful organic orchard.  Tasks vary throughout the year but include weeding, mulching, feeding, watering, coppicing and harvesting the fruit trees.  Help is needed to sustain the biodiversity of this nature habitat and harvest our huge variety of apples.  We usually meet on a Friday or Saturday throughout the year.  Just come and help when you can.

There is much apple harvesting and juice pressing to be done in October and November – help is very welcome.

If you can join us for these upcoming sessions, please call BEES on 07970 621732 to arrange access/times as the allotment gates are locked.
