BBC Radio Leeds visit Bowling Community Orchard

Listen to BEES and Bradford Apple Group on BBC Radio Leeds!

As part of Bradford year of culture 2025, Make a Difference Bradford is a project looking at a variety of organisations that strive to make a difference to communities living in all 24 Bradford postcodes.

Journalists Humaira Bham and Steve Bailey visited Bowling Community Orchard within Bowling Park allotments on a hot, sunny day on 9th May to learn about the history of the orchard and how the nearly 50 fruit trees and soft fruit bushes are cared for. They spoke with BEES staff and our wonderful volunteers and visitors to hear the benefits the orchard offers for local people, schools, wildlife and pollinators.

They had a wonderful time helping out, chatting and finished off with organic apple juice and homemade apple cake.

Listen to the 5-minute piece by clicking on the link. It can also be found on BBC sounds – Make a Difference in Bradford.

If you’d like to volunteer at the orchard or help out at any of the BEES sites on a Friday, please contact us on bees@bradfordymca.org.uk or find the task programme on the YMCA website.
